Innhentet av fortiden eller fremtiden? Hadde "the Beatles" svaret, eller spørsmålet?

Det aller, aller fleste vil ikke skjønne noe av det jeg skriver i det følgende; de vil ikke fatte pulsslaget og oppleve stinget i det. Det ligger over hodet på dem. De vil ikke lytte, kan ikke høre – de er begynt å tenke selv? Vil du kanskje si? De er blitt selvstendige? Selvrealiserte?

For første gang i verdenshistorien har vi en generasjon som virkelig tror at de er mer tolerant enn verden tidligere noen gang har vært, mer empatisk korrekt, mer storsinnet korrekt, mer – servilt betinget – emosjonelt korrekt.

Syndromet kan komme av for liten reell livserfaring, for få dype relasjoner mellom mennesker, for smal erfaring, i sum, selv om jo folk blir eldre og eldre og overlever mer selvpålagt fedme enn noen gang. Samtidig blir man opplært i mangfoldig korrekt sex på barneskolen eller i barnehaven. Og samtidig støtter foreninger, kommuner og stat boicott i MØ, på det jeg vil kalle primært emosjonelt grunnlag. (På juridisk grunnlag, holder det ikke).

Men ingen er og ingen har vært mer skolerte enn menneskene av i dag. De fleste tilbringer mange, lange år på universitetene. Mens mye samtidig tyder på at vi bare skjønner mindre og mindre.

Særlig de mest pubertalt mest fromme – eller den mest kronisk pubertalt zelotiske - del av befolkningen på mellom 15 og 40 år, vil ikke forstå noe av det jeg taler om i det følgende. Du skjønner tegningen, after all.

Jeg velger å fremstille det samlet som en montasje, en oversikt hvor «punktene» hver for seg ikke har noen direkte årsakssammenheng. De står ved siden av hverandre, de er simultane, på en måte, like vel illustrer de noe av vår historie og våre tankeparadigmer av i dag. De er ikke sydd sammen «cerebralt», men simultant, med «biter» som hver for seg er ganske isolerte og derfor kanskje ikke så stort interessante eller fengende, men som like vel er relevante overfor hverandre. Sammen er de ment å danne et helhetsbilde som kan beskrive både sinnets tilstand (via konsepter) og selve virkeligheten, som den er, ontologisk, ved å fokusere på i og for seg isolerte og kanskje ulikevektige fenomener. Virkeligheten selv er kanskje mer collage enn vi skulle tro? Kanskje det eksiterer et virkelig behov for simultan convergens, der ute? Metoden kan i hvert fall gi en vinkel blant ange andre mulige vinkler på virkeligheten.

John Lennon sa i sin tid – i Vannmannens tidsalder, på 70-tallet - at hans popularitet nå vare større enn Jesu popularitet.

Lennon drømte om en verden av fred og frihet og der alle var snille med hverandre, og lyttet til Beatles.

Det fins ingen nasjoner eller land, var et slagord – mange sang om … drømte om … på alvor?

Det fin ingenting å kjempe og dø for, var et annet, ingen hadde rett til suverenitet for eget land.

Verden er egentlig bare Én, mente Lennon, og hele koden burde ha en felles, stor Regjering eller styreform. En over-gud, med andre ord.

Det finnes heller ingen religion, mente Lennon, dvs en religion som var bedre enn noen annen, bortsett da fra New Age-religionen, en dypt hedonistisk tro.

Like vel: Trodde Lennon på Gud? Slik Den norske kirke gjør? Regjeringen? Stortinget?

Det fins ingen himmel, mente «billen», og da selvsagt heller ingen allmektig Gud.

Selvsagt finnes intet helvete; å tro på et helvete ville betyd at man må skille mellom rett og galt.

«Alt går», mente Lennon og de andre i gruppen. Live and let live. Living for today, for det finnes ingen dom, - men hva da med rettferdigheten? Vel det var ikke nødvendig å si noe om, for svaret følger jo av premissene over. Det var på denne tiden at mange folk ikke lenger ville leve til de var 90 eller deromkring. Det er vitenskapelig fastslått. Hvordan det sår til i dag, trenger man ikke lure på.

Joda, «Imagine», het en av sangene, nå mer populær enn noen gang. Imagine – ikke Utopia, men selve det selvfølgelige stedet, alle måtte tro på, for å være fullt ut menneskelig, et sted som faktisk kunne realiseres her og nå, hvis man bare slapp seg litt mer løs med tro på gud-vet- hva. Trodde man.

Hva er det vi egentlig tror på i dag? Johannes døperens hode på et fat? Vel, let’s rock and roll:

«Hey Jude», nynner vi, vel, - «don’t let me down», sentimental? Å, nei du, da har du ikke fattet poenget: «A day in the life of … », - den er toppers, - et hode på frokostbordet, ved siden av appelsinjusen og kaffen, og wiener-brødet eller speilegget, uten bacon, please, - ta en tur på «Penny lane», get strolling, yeah, og glemme hele greia, dvs Muhammed, for: «Here comes the sun», you see.

«No skies in heaven», to day, islam does not exist, except in your head, dummy, so no danger, all is well and fine, but afraid? :

»I  want to hold your hand», so dearly, without no dread or Angst today,  and «Eleanor Rigby», well: «Hello Goodbye», «Twist and shout».

Regnbuefarger, blomsterbarn: «Strawberry hills forever».

Den islamske lærde Karadawi sier: « We can work it out», «Love me … do … do … do, love me tooooo, love me do”.

«Yellow submarine»? Virkelig?

Get back, get fucked: «Can’t buy me love», «Obladi oblada». That’s Khomeini, no humor in islam. «A hard days night», eh?

Er vi på 1970-tallet her? De pubertalt, emosjonelt korrekte, i alderen mellom 15 og 45, synes å tro det og vil det, at det skal være slik, i dag, og at det skal vare evig, som en selvfølge. Det eneste de ikke føler er sentimentalitet … !  

Det de frykter mest er å skulle mangle empati, toleranse og «kjærlighet». Eller at det skulle finnes noen som ikke «lider av behovet for innlevelse» i all ofres lidelser overalt. Men det finnes kanskje noe som makter å «konnekte the dots» og finne den riktige tråden, som rakner det hele, vel vitende at garnet kan strikkes på nytt.

I en avisreklame for en kirke eller en menighet i USA, i dag, eller for kort tiden siden, kunne man lese:

Aircondition-anlegget fungerer utmerket

Det serveres kaffe og kaker etter hver preken

Musikken er oppløftende og lett å synge etter

Du vil treffe noen veldig sympatiske mennesker

Andaktene tar alltid opp konkrete ting fra hverdagslivet

Du kan sove lenge ut på søndag morgen og like vel komme i tide

Det fins tilbud for barn og unge

Gratis parkering!

Du kan ta deg en tur på stranden om morgenen og likevel nå kveldsmøtet

Du vil få oppleve en helt herlig Gud som har omsorg for deg.

As evangelical faith becomes secularized, its interests have been blurred with those of the culture. The result is a loss of absolute values, permissive individualism, and a substitution of wholeness for holiness, recovery for repentance, intuition for truth, feeling for belief, chance for providence, and immediate gratification for enduring hope. Christ and his cross have moved from the center of our vision.

Unwarranted confidence in human ability is a product of fallen human nature. This false confidence now fills the evangelical world; from the self-esteem gospel, to the health and wealth gospel, from those who have transformed the gospel into a product to be sold and sinners into consumers who want to buy, to others who treat Christian faith as being true simply because it works. This silences the doctrine of justification regardless of the official commitments of our churches. God's grace in Christ is not merely necessary but is the sole efficient cause of salvation. We confess that human beings are born spiritually dead and are incapable even of cooperating with regenerating grace.

Many in the church growth movement believe that sociological understanding of those in the pew is as important to the success of the gospel as is the biblical truth which is proclaimed. As a result, theological convictions are frequently divorced from the work of the ministry. The marketing orientation in many churches takes this even further, erasing the distinction between the biblical Word and the world, robbing Christ's cross of its offense, and reducing Christian faith to the principles and methods which bring success to secular corporations.

Kommentar: Hvem forstår dette i dag? Det ble forfattet på slutten av 1900-tallet. Det har tatt oss 30 år å la formaningen gå i glemmeboken for der å bli helt irrelevant for oss i dag.

For å ta med litt mer: Scripture alone is the inerrant rule of the church's life, but the evangelical church today has separated Scripture from its authoritative function. In practice, the church is guided, far too often, by the culture.

Therapeutic technique, marketing strategies, and the beat of the entertainment world often have far more to say about what the church wants, how it functions and what it offers, than does the Word of God. Pastors have neglected their rightful oversight of worship, including the doctrinal content of the music. As biblical authority has been abandoned in practice, as its truths have faded from Christian consciousness, and as its doctrines have lost their saliency, the church has been increasingly emptied of its integrity, moral authority and direction.

Rather than adapting Christian faith to satisfy the felt needs of consumers, we must proclaim the law as the only measure of true righteousness and the gospel as the only announcement of saving truth. Biblical truth is indispensable to the church's understanding, nurture and discipline.

Scripture must take us beyond our perceived needs to our real needs and liberate us from seeing ourselves through the seductive images, cliches, promises and priorities of mass culture. It is only in the light of God's truth that we understand ourselves aright and see God's provision for our need. The Bible, therefore, must be taught and preached in the church. Sermons must be expositions of the Bible and its teachings, not expressions of the preacher's opinions or the ideas of the age. We must settle for nothing less than what God has given.

The work of the Holy Spirit in personal experience cannot be disengaged from Scripture. The Spirit does not speak in ways that are independent of Scripture. Apart from Scripture we would never have known of God's grace in Christ. The biblical Word, rather than spiritual experience, is the test of truth.

The loss of God's centrality in the life of today's church is common and lamentable. It is this loss that allows us to transform worship into entertainment, gospel preaching into marketing, believing into technique, being good into feeling good about ourselves, and faithfulness into being successful. As a result, God, Christ and the Bible have come to mean too little to us and rest too inconsequentially upon us.

God does not exist to satisfy human ambitions, cravings, the appetite for consumption, or our own private spiritual interests. We must focus on God in our worship, rather than the satisfaction of our personal needs. God is sovereign in worship; we are not. Our concern must be for God's kingdom, not our own empires, popularity or success.

CASA Church volunteer Lorena Abello here enunciates the view that most people take for granted today: “Whether it’s the Bible or the Koran or the Torah, it’s all about being kind and loving one another. I mean, we’re all God’s children.”

Reality:

“Against them make ready your strength to the utmost of your power, including steeds of war, to strike terror into the hearts of the enemies of Allah and your enemies…” (8:60)

“When your Lord was revealing to the angels, ‘I am with you; so confirm the believers. I shall cast terror into the hearts of the unbelievers; so strike the necks, and strike every finger of them!” (Qur’an 8:12)

“We will cast terror into the hearts of those who disbelieve for what they have associated with Allah of which He had not sent down authority. And their refuge will be the Fire, and wretched is the residence of the wrongdoers.” (Qur’an 3:151)

“And kill them wherever you find them, and drive them out from where they drove you out; persecution is worse than slaughter. But fight them not by the Holy Mosque until they should fight you there; then, if they fight you, kill them — such is the recompense of unbelievers, but if they give over, surely Allah is all-forgiving, all-compassionate. Fight them until there is no persecution and the religion is Allah’s; then if they give over, there shall be no enmity save for evildoers.” (Qur’an 2:191-193)

“Pouring Rain Doesn’t Stop Church Volunteers From Delivering Donations To Those At Condo Collapse Site,” CBSMiami, June 30, 2021:

…On the move in their red ponchos, an appropriate color for a group that’s all heart, volunteers of CASA Church gathered donations for those impacted by the Surfside collapse.

From hand sanitizer to coffee, they spent the day delivering items – even in the pouring rain.

“My shoes are full of water and I’ve been rained on quite a bit, but it’s completely worth it. They are out here, so why should we,” said volunteer Lorena Abello….

They helped freshen up the moods of so many dampened by Thursday’s tragedy, using the Good Book as a compass in all this chaos and confusion.

“Whether it’s the Bible or the Koran or the Torah, it’s all about being kind and loving one another. I mean, we’re all God’s children,” said Abello.
